Brian Pappal brings a wealth of musical experience to his role as conductor of the Mapleton Chorale. With years of professional experience as a pianist, vocalist, composer, conductor, and educator, Brian has worked as a pianist at institutions such as the University of Utah, Ballet West, and Carolina Ballet and as a vocalist with professional choirs across the United States. His jazz piano skills have led him to perform with big bands and jazz chamber ensembles and on various albums. Brian’s compositions and arrangements have received global recognition, including airtime on television and radio. Additionally, he served as the music director and organist for two large Protestant churches in the Eastern United States over a span of 12 years. Throughout his diverse musical journey, Brian’s passion lies in exploring music alongside others and illuminating the joy of music for audiences. He received his undergraduate degree in Trombone Performance from Duquesne University and a Master's in Choral Conducting from BYU. In addition to his work with the Mapleton Chorale, he was recently appointed the Music Director and Conductor of the Wasatch Symphony in Salt Lake City. When not making or thinking about music, Brian enjoys cooking, reading, nature walks, and spending time with his wife, Ashley.

Emily Marshall

Assistant Conductor

Emily joined Mapleton Chorale as a singer in 2017 and was honored to accept the position of Assistant Conductor in 2022. Her love of music began at a very young age. Through her childhood and teenage years, she loved performing, composing, arranging, accompanying, and competing. Her deep love of choral music began at an early age as well, and was solidified during her studies at BYU, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Music. Since then, she has enjoyed her work as a private piano teacher, professional accompanist, and as the director of various church choirs for over 15 years. In addition to Mapleton Chorale, she has also sung most recently with Intermountain Choral Artists and Da Pacem. Music is one of her greatest joys, and she believes that it has the power to help us feel and express things that can’t be felt or expressed in words. It also connects people to each other and to God, and brings beauty into our lives. When she is not doing something musical, Emily enjoys playing sports (especially Pickleball), martial arts, reading, hiking, traveling, crocheting, Duolingo, playing board games, watching movies, and especially spending time with her 5 kids and her wonderfully supportive husband Jon.
